Archbishop Demetrios Visits Newly Formed Fairfield University OCF

 

Fairfield, CT – December 8, 2010 - His Eminence, Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese visited the campus of Fairfield University, this evening, for a lecture, given in honor of his tenth anniversary of enthronment as Archbishop of America.  The lecture, The Care of the Soul: Ancient and Contemporary Orthodox Perspectives on Confession and Spiritual Direction, was delivered by Dr. Aristotle Papnikolaou and Dr. George E. Demacopoulos, Co-directors of the Orthodox Christian Studies Program at Fordham University.


Following the Lecture,  His Eminence, Archbishop Demetrios, praised the Orthodox Students under the leadership of President Jamie Ramerini who recently formed an OCF chapter at Fairfield University, with the assistance of  University Chaplain Fr. Jerry Blaschak, and Very Rev. Protopresbyter Demetrios Rechachinas, of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, CT, their spiritual advisor. 

 

In his remarks, His Eminence recalled with fondness, his involvement with OCF forty years ago, attending conferences on Contemporary Orthodox Life, given by Frs. John Meyendorf and Alexander Schmemann.  He spoke enthusiastically about the resurrengence of the OCF in recent years, and its growth to more than three hundred chapters in North America.His Eminence, then presented the newly formed chapter with a beautiful icon of the Holy Apostle Paul, to inspire them to spread the good news of the Orthodox Faith on the Fairfield University Campus.
