Holy Fire: Making and Baking Bread in New Oven For the Homeless!

  

Brookline, MA – March 8, 2012 -  OCF Chapters in the New York and New Jersey  region are cordially invited to join the staff of St John of Krondstadt House For the Homeless in Brighton Beach on Sunday, March 11th, 1-2:30pm, for a celebration of our first firing of their newly-built oven and launching of the Bread Houses Network Program in Brighton Beach organized by the Bread Houses Network (www.breadhousesnetwork.org) together with the Orthodox Business Association and Father Vadim Arefiev, priest of the Church of the Mother of God The Holy Chalice (http://www.svxram.org/english_church%202/index.html).


After the Liturgy which starts at 10:30am,  the participants will gather to make, bake, and break bread together around the fire of the oven and the warmth of the church space, talking about the poetics of bread-making as metaphors of life and human relationships used in the Gospels that can help us during the days of fasting as a preparation for the Resurrection and Ascension of the one Real Bread of Life. The lecture will be led by Nadezhda Savova, PhD Candidate in Anthropology at Princeton University and founder of the Bread Houses Network.
