160 WEST 120TH St.
New York, NY 10027
Princeton University anthropologist Nadezhda Savova, founder/ president of the international charity Bread Houses Network, invites people of all ages and across Orthodox parishes around New York as well as people from other denominations with interest in Orthodoxy to convene in the ambiance of Orthodox chants and with stories and photographs about Orthodox breads from different cultures, to learn to make the traditional Eastern Orthodox prosphora as well as beautifully decorated Eastern European ritual breads.
While we wait for the bread to rise, and then bake, we will tour the Holy Land and other holy sites around the world through images helping us comprehend and sense the Orthodox Eucharistic vision of the world. The baked prosphora breads will be brought forward for Sunday’s Divine Liturgy at the various parishes that will participate, thus symbolically uniting parishes across New York through the bread we will all have made together and that we will ultimately all share spiritually by becoming parts of the one Divine body in the breaking and partaking of the Eucharistic bread regardless of distance and place.
This is a fully “HANDS ON”, fun and yet also educational and spiritual experience for everyone! All ingredients will be provided.
Please RSVP at nsavova@princeton.edu and juliademaree@gmail.com
