WHEATON PARISH STARTS SUMMER OCF GROUP

WHEATON, IL [OCF Communications] - Summer vacation is now in full swing and students have returned home and OCF's have ceased until the fall university session begins again. But the summer is not time to take a vacation from active fellowship and worship.  In the hope of keeping college students connected to the Church during summer vacation one parish has initiated a summer OCF group.

An initial gathering for college students and young adults was held at St. Joseph Church here on Thursday, June 11. In addition to providing a venue for discussions and fellowship, the summer gatherings will provide a venue for reaching out to Orthodox Christian students and enquirers from the Chicagoland Western Suburbs. "Providing our students a venue to meet in fellowship and worship, just as they would on campus in their local OCF groups is the least we can offer to our students during the summer months," said Protodeacon Joseph Matusiak. Father Joseph Kopka, Associate Pastor at St Joseph's added, "there is nothing to starting up such an initiative, all we did was open the doors, put on some coffee and sweets and get the word out. Anyone can do it and we got 18 students for our first meeting."

Fathers John Matusiak and Joseph Kopka, rector and associate, and Protodeacon Joseph Matusiak of the OCA Youth Department hosted the gathering.
