In a joint venture with the Fairfield University Campus Ministry Mission and Identity and Catholic Studies Program, the Fairfield University OCF will be hosting a lecture by reknown Orthodox writer and lecturer, Frank Schaeffer at the Dolan School of Business Dining Hall on Wednesday April 18, 2012 at 7:30 pm. He will speak on the topic: Eastern Orthodox Christianity: Finding Grace in a Time of Politicized Religion.

Frank Schaeffer is the son of the late theologian and author Francis Schaeffer. In 1990, Schaeffer became an Orthodox Christian as a member of the Orthodox Church, which he says "embraces paradox and mystery."

He will speak on the impact of far right religion on politics, and his journey from being an Evangelical leader to a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. He is a bestselling author, with his most recent works, Crazy for God: How I Grew Up As One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of It Back , in which he goes into much more detail regarding what it was like to grow up in the Schaeffer family and around L'Abri.

In 2011, he published another memoir called Sex, Mom,and God, in which he discusses growing up with his parents and their role in the rise of the American religious right.

He will discuss his attraction to Eastern Orthodox Christianity as a faith of love and what this faith has to offer contrary to what is currently offered by the far right religious sector.

*Admission is Free. Refreshments will be Served. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
