New Year Off to a Great Start!

We had a great meeting yesterday evening at the Michaels' home.  Our UTD OCF is official on campus and the leaders have already set up a website which will be posted here soon.  Father Matthew Alexander, youth minister for the Indian Orthodox area churches attended with an Indian Orthodox UTD student along with our other students.

Dinner was delicious as usual -- thank you Liz Michaels.

We are still finalizing all details but here is some brief general information:

1) We have a speaker- he is an Orthodox priest in Houston. He used to be a philosophy and religion professor.

2 ) Friday evening is the night that people will be coming in and getting to know each other. It will be a very relaxed night just so everyone can meet and get comfortable.

3) Saturday will be the main retreat day. It will consist of different activities to build group dynamic, the speaker, and religious exercises that will force everyone to reflect on themselves and see what they think. We will probably be breaking up into small groups to do all these smaller discussion groups. Saturday night we are planning on having a little dance party.

4) Sunday morning we will all pack up and go to church together, most likely in Houston and then we can all go and get lunch in Houston and then go our different ways.

5) The $50 fee that is paid will cover your food, supplies, and room.

Overall the purpose of this retreat is to encourage orthodox college students to stay on the religious path as they go through their college years and to lay a religious foundation for their future. The retreat will help the attendees meet fellow orthodox youth and bond/relate/discuss about today's issues and how our religion handles those issues. Hopefully people's faith will be stronger after this weekend.

We are looking forward to a wonderful year.
