Favorite College Memory

Introducing my friends to Orthodoxy. Those that  came to
church with me were just blown away by our Liturgy -- they
had never seen anything like it. I also loved demonstrating
the faith, particularly during Lenten fasting, when my friends
learned that fasting was more than just giving up chocolate
on Wednesday and Fridays!

One piece of advice I would like to offer a college student:
Remember who you are and where you come from.
And, most importantly, be yourself and the light of God
will shine through in all you do.

My favorite college memory: For me, college is a collection
of wonderful memories. The friendships I made and strong
connections that were built mean the world to me.  All of the
laughter alone was enough to make my college experience
amazing!

One piece of advice I would like to offer a college student :
Understand that college is a beautiful time for growth - both on a
personal and spiritual level.  Take advantage of it!

Favorite College Memory: I participated in Real Break Trip
- Constantinople my senior year and it was such an incredible
experience! It was the most physical labor I had ever
done, but SO rewarding! I was surrounded
with a wonderful group of Orthodox young adults
that still are my good friends, was blessed to meet
His All Holiness, Patriarch Bartholomew and see the rich
history of our Orthodox Church!

One piece of advice I would like to offer a college student:

Don't procrastinate!

My favorite college memory:
One of my favorite college memories was a prank war that ensued
with my friend Mac. I broke into his dorm room while he was sleeping
and poured a beautiful mixture of cottage cheese, honey and granola
on his head.  He got me back by breaking into my apartment with his
buddies and taking everything out of my room - EVERYTHING!  All they
left were two mismatched shoes.  For an entire week, I had to borrow
clothes from all of my friends.

One piece of advice I would like to offer a college student :

Be open to questioning!  College makes you question a lot of things
in life.  Keep your heart open, and God will break through in ways
you never dreamed possible.  (I am still learning this one.)

My Favorite College Memory:

A few of the Orthodox students were involved in an off-shoot of
our Orthodox fellowship group that sought to involve Orthodox
and non-Orthodoxstudents, working towards
peace and justice
domestically and internationally. We prayed regularly for the many
prisoners being held in labor camps in the Soviet Union
at the time for practicing their faith, and one day we learned
of the release of some of the priests we had been praying for.

One piece of advice I would like to offer a college student.

Make your college years more than just academic education
in order to get a degree. Use those precious few years to allow
God to form you in the many ways He will form you, if allowed:
educationally, but also emotionally, socially, and most
especially, spiritually.

One piece of advice you would like to offer a college student.

I give all of my students the same advice - as long as you keep Christ
at your center, when life is joyful, when life is stressful...in all situations,
He will always take care of you and lead you to your next and right
path and although this sounds simple - this task may be the hardest
thing to remember.

My favorite college memory:
Taking study breaks and driving around town with my
roommates, in my 1987 Crown Victoria, which we called “The
Tank,” trying to find a place open for a midnight snack.

One piece of advice I would like to offer a college student
:

I experienced and was filled with the sweetness of Christ’s love
for the first time when I was in College through a fellow student,
a nun at the West Coast College Conference, and an orphaned
baby at the Hogar Rafael Orphanage in Guatemala during a Real
Break trip. This is when I made the faith my own.

Strive to build on your relationship with Christ and you also will
find that the sweetness of His love fills and satisfies you more
than anything you could ever imagine!

My favorite college memory: Attending Church at a local
Orthodox Parish.

One piece of advice I would like to offer a college student :

I believe St. Paul's advice to the Apostle Timothy is most appropriate:
"Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in
speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity."  (I Timothy 4:12)
