Position Overview
This is a full-time, salaried, remote position that reports to our Executive Director, Dn. Marek Simon. The Communications Manager will develop and communicate the image of OCF, set and guide the strategy for all communications, website, and public relations messages and materials to consistently articulate the mission of OCF. The Communications Manager will work closely with the leadership team of the organization as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across OCF’s distinct audiences (i.e., students, donors, clergy, Orthodox jurisdictions, etc.)
- Engage audience segments across digital media platforms and leads to measurable action
- Put communications strategies in place to create momentum and awareness as well as to ensure the effectiveness of communications activities
- Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all electronic and print materials for OCF
- Coordinate and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with other Orthodox Christian organizations, content creators, and publications to expand the reach of OCF’s message
- Mentor and lead student leaders responsible for content creation across various platforms
Coordinate webpage maintenance—ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted and updated regularly - Track and measure the level of engagement within the network over time
- Strategically attract new audience members across OCF’s constituent groups
- Manage all media contacts
Ideal Background
- Ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, create compelling stories, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels
- Highly collaborative style; experience with developing and implementing communications strategies
- Exceptional communicator, both written and spoken, and able to communicate vision and processes with clarity, authority, and inspiration
- PR and marketing experience which includes the ability to leverage technology to increase engagement with diverse audiences
- Fluency in basic design tools such as Canva or Adobe and social media platforms
- Experience with digital content production preferred (video, podcasts, blogs, etc.)
- Technologically savvy. Familiarity with WordPress and CRM software is a plus
- A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
- High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
- Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, students, and other supporters
- Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurially; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
Requirements
- Faith and Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or similar field is preferred. Due to the nature of and responsibilities for this position, an Orthodox Christian who has a foundational knowledge of the faith and experience with the various traditions within American Orthodoxy is essential.
- Experience and Values:
- 2+ years of experience leading/ working in communications and/or marketing environments
- A technology enthusiast who is an earlier adopter of new technology and is a quick learner of new apps which can further facilitate communications
- Experience working in a team-oriented, virtual environment
- A not-for-profit or mission-oriented experience
