This Real Break trip is a unique partnership that will bring to light all of the tremendous work being done at FOCUS Cleveland’s St. Herman House. A men’s homeless shelter in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood, student participants will have the opportunity to bear witness to and participate in the day-to-day schedule – serving 3 hot meals a day to men, women, and children in the community, and providing groceries and clothing to those in need. In 2015, approximately 80,000 meals were served.

In addition to St. Herman House, trip participants will visit FOCUS Cleveland’s 75-acre cattle farm and learn more about its’ current function and up-in-coming transitions – there is a desire to move from raising cattle to raising sheep, and also a plan to have lavender fields, a berry picking ranch, and local honey from on-site beehives for the surrounding community to enjoy!

Importantly, the Real Break Cleveland participants will also learn about the many forms of poverty and begin the fight against it through guided discussions and presentations by the FOCUS staff. The goals of this trip are to love and serve a community, to develop a better understanding of poverty, and to enter into a few days of fellowship, education, worship, and service with other Orthodox college students from across the United States.
